“The Destroyermen,” a team of three Navy bloggers aboard the destroyer Russell, document the dangerous at-sea ballet that is an underway-refueling. Warships edge up alongside supply ships to swap supplies over cables, while choppers haul loads of stuff between flight decks. The caption for this pic: “Airdales lounging in the sun while everyone else works.”
With this sweet little blog, the Navy is now in second place in the race to harness the power of the internet for educating the American people about the military. First place goes to the Office of the Secretary of Defense; the Coast Guard is currently dead last. The Air Force isn’t even running the race. Instead, it’s sneaking onto the track to trip the runners.
