Stanford University has teamed up with truck-maker Caterpillar to build the world’s largest ground robot, an autonomous version of a 700-ton dump truck. Looks like Hollywood had the same idea. Michael Bay apparently has cast Caterpillar’s massive truck as a Decepticon in the forthcoming Transformers 2. (Concept art pictured.)

Bay based his sentient robots in the original Transformers on a wide range of military vehicles, including the Force Protection Buffalo mine-clearing vehicle and the F-22 fighter, which Bay rented at a rate of $25,000 an hour.

looking forward to this flick, for sure.
Unfortunately, the movie will be full of quick shots and shaky cam, so you will never really be able to see anything….Just like the last one.
Long Haul was one of the Constructicons, named for their group job of design, engineering and construction for the Decepticon forces. They were the very first combining sub-group of Transformers, able to merge their bodies and minds together to form the gigantic Devastator.
Bonecrusher, Scavenger, Scrapper, Hook, Long Haul, and Mixmaster.
Too bad they screwed this up by killing Bonecrusher in the first transformers, and renaming Brawl (the tank in the first movie)to Devastator.
This movie sounds even better than the first one!

Oh yeah, I work on these trucks. the Caterpillar 797 is their largest truck and it’s classified as a 400 ton mega machine. Of course its payload is pretty big so 700 tons sounds about right. I can’t wait to see it.
