In this video posted to Liveleak yesterday, an English-speaking shipboard private security team fires upon, and apparently wounds or kills, at least two groups of pirates attempting to hijack what seems to be a large tanker ship. The incident probably occurred off the Somali coast.

After years of fruitless efforts to deter piracy by naval forces, shipping companies have increasingly turned to private guards to defend ships.

  1. It would be a lot easier doing it the way they do on TV with a missile that takes out the boat with a fiery streak and a quick explosion!

  2. Loic says:

Can’t wait for the first up-armored skiffs to turn up, the pirates are going to get bigger toys

  3. hiro says:

that got fucked up real quick. the leader ordered warning shots, then two seconds later, they were spraying the skiff. i dont feel bad for the pirates, but that does not say much for the private guards. they kinda make black-im sorry “academi”- look like honor guards.

still, 10 guys with m4s is probably the most cost effective and least risky way to avoid pirates- navies that are providing protection cant be everywhere, so some insurance is probably useful.
