Via Youtube user “basketlibya,” we can glimpse the fighting between Libyan rebels and the forces of dictator Muammar Gadhafi. It is, in short, dusty, confusing and terrifying.

Both sides are having the same problems as the British & Nazis were having in North Africa: everyone has to hug the coast and your supply lines can get very stretched very quickly.

It must be very confusing, when both sides are a mix of militias, volunteers, and professional soldiers. And who knows what will happen when Ghadaffi is gone. I wonder where water and ammunition are coming from, and whose mortar that is?

I also think it’s interesting to see the diverse mix of weapons being used by the rebels. Scan the videos on youtube, and you’ll find everything from Soviet SKS’s and AK’s to civilian sporting shotguns, bolt-action rifles, and revolvers. I saw a woman armed with a single shot, breach loading shotgun, and another with a guy with an old-school sword on his back.
